Opti-Minds success

Science and Engineering team
Sunday, August 23, thirteen students and three teachers from Tara Shire State College went to the University of Queensland's Gatton Campus to compete in the Regional Opti-Minds Challenge for 2015.
One of our teams entered the Science & Engineering Challenge. These students(years 7-9) designed and built an invention that would transport an “exploration vehicle” at least a metre away and back with only one activation whilst carrying a tin of tuna. These students worked completely independently to create their invention and did an excellent job, as it worked many times in practice but not unfortunately on the day.

We also have two teams enter the Social Sciences Challenge in the Open Division.  These teams combined students (Years 11 and 12) and teachers to further develop cooperation and team-work skills. These teams had to invent a new community and develop four criteria for Founding Members of the municipality. Both teams did extremely well with the first team being named Finalists in their category and asked to attend the State Finals in October.
Educating students for a future still to come means teach them to think outside the box and display problem solving skills which we are proud to say our students have excelled in.  Well done to everyone who participated and good luck to our team off to the Opti-minds State Finals in October.
