Opti-minds Challenge 2016

On Sunday, August 28, five teams of students from Tara Shire State College participated in the Opti-Minds Regional Event for 2016. The students travelled to the University of Queensland at Gatton to present their Opti-Minds solutions.

Two teams entered the Science Engineering category. These students had to make their own “Pongle” machine, which would bat a ball back and forth for a period of time. The other three teams entered the Language Literature category. These teams had to write their own mystery story and present it in front of a panel of judges.
Congratulations to Miss Christensen’s team (Sky Brown, Maddison Hallinan, Carolyn Reay, Lacey Riches, Madison Shaw, Shavonne Staines, and Natalie Velez) and Mrs Wallace’s team (Bethanee Hayward, Aali Lawlor, and Joshua Velez) for being awarded Honours on the day.
In the lead-up to Opti-Minds, students spent many lunch-times building their “Pongle” machines, writing scripts, creating props, and painting backdrops. They all gave their best effort and it showed in their performances on the day. All students represented the College extremely well and had a fantastic time.
Thank you to Mrs Wallace, Mr Wale, Miss Christensen, Mr Bestmann, and Mr Cosgrove for facilitating our teams. Also thank you to Mr Wallace and Miss Crossley who volunteered as judges on the day, and the parents who came to support their students.
