Why do Work Experience?

Students in Year 10 will participate in Structured Workplace Learning, more commonly referred to as work experience from 23 June to 27 June 2014.

This is a valuable opportunity for the students and we are forever grateful to the businesses that support our students.  Students gain so much from the week including:

  •  An increased awareness of the ‘real’ world
  • An insight to the area or profession
  • Confirmation that the area of work is a possible future career, or not
  • Assist in the decision making process for choosing senior subjects and future pathways
  • Build on work skills and expectations

Students in Year 10 will be involved in a course of study that will examine possible career pathways after their work experience and this will help guide them in their subject choices for their senior years. It is not uncommon for students to be unsure of their future post Year 12, so it is important that they are exposed to a variety of career opportunities.  Year 11 students have already completed one week of work experience but will have another opportunity later in the year. It is important that students participate fully in both workplace learning experiences.
